As the world gets to grips with COVID-19, more and more people are being required to work from home for the foreseeable future.
Whilst working from home is not a new phenomenon, it will be a new experience for a lot of people and it is vitally important for employers and employees alike to be properly prepared.
Due to the rushed nature to get a workforce working from home, we are seeing a number of painful issues arising. Rushed or poorly planned working from home conditions have the potential to bring with it a number of painful health complaints.
These are both physical and emotional and need to be addressed to ensure a successful transition to work from home environment. It is an Occupational Health and Safety requirement that employees are provided with a safe working environment, including their workstation.
In keeping with this, the normal process of transitioning to working from home includes a work station assessment and evaluation, followed by appropriate changes to ensure risk minimisation.
Given the haste at which current measures are being rolled out, it is no surprise that we are seeing a spike in Ergonomic-related postural pain within our community. This often presents in the form of:
- Neck and Shoulder pain
- Low Back pain and stiffness
These complaints are due to poor workstation set up or a change in the work station and are avoidable.
