Sponsorships at The Joint

The Joint has been a proud sponsor of Jess Turnbull, Australia’s highest ranked female squash player, since 2022. We recently asked Jess a few questions about her career and her involvement with The Joint since 2022.

My current world ranking is 59, my highest is 56. I am the number one ranked Australian, with three consecutive national titles. My most recent title wins were the 2024 Australian nationals and the 2024 Oceania Regional Championships.

Most obviously, sponsorship helps in easing the financial burden of being an individual athlete. I had to build my own team from the ground up, and doing this is difficult, time consuming, and expensive. Having sponsorship to help me get the treatment I need without having to worry about whether I can afford it is a huge benefit.

It is also a way for me to give back to the community that has supported me over many years. It’s a way of forming connections and being able to give back to the people who I owe a lot of my success to. It’s also nice to be able to tell those who follow me that there is a big village behind the scenes!

Sponsorship is also an amazing way to promote squash!

I was introduced to the team many years ago through another member of my athlete team, and I haven’t looked back since. I choose to get treated here because I trust that the team at The Joint have my best interests at heart and are willing to work with me to get me back to competition fitness quickly and safely.

I have seen almost all of the team at The Joint at some point, and they always work together to help me through multiple major injuries, as well as every persistent small injury. I also love that they are willing to work with me to understand squash specific movements and how they affect my rehab.

I have big plans for the upcoming 2024/25 season! There is an Asian leg of the world tour that starts in November, and all going as planned I’ll be playing the four events in that sector of the tour. Which are: China Open in Shanghai, Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur, Singapore Open, and the Hong Kong Open. Following these world tour events and to finish off the year is our world teams championships where Australia will send a men’s and women’s team to compete for our country’s position on the world stage. Following the end of the year and moving into 2025, I’ll be spending most of my time in North America playing the world tour events there.

Sandgate squash club is my home club and run by my coach and brother Nathan. Sandgate runs a beginner junior program from 3:30pm-5pm on Tuesdays during school term. Adult coaching sessions are on Monday night from 6pm. Social sessions are on Monday between 4pm-6pm, and Saturday between 1pm- 4pm. We are also a public club, so you can bring a friend, and book a court just for you as well.

Squash is a huge community sport and is welcoming, fun, and a great combination of endurance, speed, agility, mental fortitude, and skill. We would love for you to get involved!
