It’s Time To Re-think Your New Years Resolutions!

It’s that time of year again when we are all thinking about what we would like to do differently this NEW year and what our ‘Resolutions’ are.

Resolutions is an interesting word though, as most do not stick to what they had hoped they would and therefore feel like a failure in some way, possibly because they set these resolutions from a negative point of view of themselves so therefore this is how it ends!

What if this new decade leading into 2020 we start to think of these changing habits as ‘intentions’. This word holds a different energy. Lets compare…

Resolutions tend to come from a negative space as mentioned above. Sometimes from a place of shame. And usually from an underlying thought of not being ‘good enough’, to be better? Most of the time this comes from a place of not liking who you, judgement and wanting things to be different. Change is GREAT however it depends on HOW this comes about.

Being set out like a goal – though often without the planning around how you will achieve them, and usually without the TRUE DESIRE to achieve them, or keeping yourself accountable this can often leave you feeling guilt, disappointment, resentment and just another reason to feel like you failed again this year! Sound familiar?

Example –

  • ‘I want to exercise more’
  • ‘I want to eat better’
  • ‘I want to be out of debt’

Intentions come from a place of positivity. They focus on how you want to feel. What you want to bring more of into your life. They are written differently and thought of with a positive outcome. Doesn’t that feel instantly better? We are so conditioned to push ourselves to be a certain way due to what we believe we should be or do.

Example –

  • I choose to move and strengthen my body 5 days per week to allow me to feel well and healthy.
  • I choose to focus on my self-care as its my time to look after me, so I am a happier human/parent/friend…
  • I choose to find ways to laugh daily

Intentions teach us to word how we want to feel with positive thoughts and outcomes. And when you check in with yourself (being self responsible) throughout the year on how your going – you can reflect from a place of non-judgement.

Example –

  • I intended to look after MY self-care this year and I keep putting off that physio appointment.
  • I know I’ll FEEL better if I go and my body will thank me for it.
  • I am going to change this now by calling and making that appointment.

As people we are constantly changing, learning, evolving and maturing .

Don’t you think it’s time you started a new year with kindness and a focus on this evolution, rather than setting yourself up for failure?

Lets Start this new year with some new intentions and getting you feeling your best for this new decade!
